Preston and Stephanie Holcombe — what a duo. These two have become some of my parents’ go-to-hang-out-buddies, which really just means that they all play disc golf together. Before coronavirus hit, they would head out to Crockett Park with my parents and play disc golf, after hours of sitting in front of the TV watching every possible disc golf tutorial. With corona now, it looks a little different, but they are still a part of each other’s lives.
A while ago, I asked my parents to let me take some photos of them in our backyard (which if you haven’t checked out yet, here ya go!! It’s a must-see) and I knew I wanted to do more. The obvious choice of another couple to hang out with was the Holcombes, but I just kept forgetting to mention it.
Fast forward about a month or so later, and Stephanie texted me that she and Preston would love some new headshots for work, and all my ideas came back to me. I responded quickly that I would absolutely love to — but would they mind letting me give them a free couples session along with it? The immediate answer was a YES and so this shoot came to be.
I knew the perfect location for the shoot. At least once a day during this time of social distancing, I go on a walk through my neighborhood and the adjoining neighborhood (and FaceTime a friend) and pass this BEAUTIFUL field that I just dream of doing a shoot in. Semi-tall grass, huge trees, flowers, etc. Truly everything you could want in a summer shoot. Stephanie and Preston, being the troopers that they are, fully trusted me with the location and I’m so glad they did — the photos were magical!!
These two have been married for about a year and a half now, but about halfway through their shoot I asked them about their first date and they shared their story with me. Preston had asked Stephanie if she would be down to go to the Fresh Market, a grocery store around there. As odd as it sounded, his heart behind it was beautiful. He knew that for first dates, people liked to create elaborate dates and activities to truly celebrate the other person (and for it to be less awkward). But, Preston wanted to make sure that the two of them didn’t enjoy this date just because of the activities or where they were eating. Instead, he wanted the date to be simple so they could know if the other person was interesting and if this relationship was worth pursuing.
Obviously, it was!
Check these photos out for more sweet moments during their time this evening. It truly was magical 🙂
