I LOVE PROPOSALS. I really do. There’s something about the anticipation of waiting for a proposal happen and the hiding and the secrecy that really just makes me unbelievably happy. Knowing that how the next few moments and interactions and words play out can change a couple’s life forever is so beautiful to witness and be a part of.
Soooo when Remi reached out and inquired about a proposal session for her sister that was happening in a couple of weeks, you bet that I wanted to be there and help celebrate them. Remi and I called and chatted, going over where Matthew wanted to propose, what time of day it would be, and rainy day backup plans. We knew it was going to be simple and perfect and absolutely wonderful.
Finally, the day of the proposal came — Friday, April 16th. The weather forecast was beautiful and sunny all day (something I will always be thankful for) and the jitters and anticipation of how the day would unfold set in. I arrived to Wyatt a little bit early to meet up with Remi and Jon (who were so unbelievably excited and nervous for the evening — they made me even more jittery ahahhaha) and plan out exactly where I would be for the proposal… and we realized that the best place to hide me would be in plain sight! Jaime (and Matthew for that matter) had never met me and therefore a girl on her phone with a backpack chilling in the grass on a nice spring evening was not going to throw up any red flags.
However, there were some signs of proposal nonetheless, according to Jaime. For the past month or so, every time she was hanging out with Matthew, she figured she was going to get engaged that day, and every day she was a bit bummed when she realized that today was not the day. So, when she and Matthew started walking to Wyatt, she kind of figured that this might be the day as well, especially as they started walking up the beautiful white-washed steps. And this time, she had even been encouraged to dress extra nice and get her nails done, clear signs of a proposal. Oh, and did I mention that Jaime is a photographer herself? Yup, Jaime is a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in Atlanta, so of course she knows all the signs of a proposal.
Anyway, Matthew gets down on one knee, Jaime sobs her heart out, and she lands the most beautiful ring on her finger. Then, out of nowhere, her family, Matthew’s family, and Jaime’s best friend pop over, bringing champagne and the best of hugs!! It was the cutest celebration — simple, joyful, and full of tears and gratitude.
These two are getting MARRIED and I’m so honored that I got to be a part of celebrating them and the start of their lives together. Cheers to the new fiances!!
