Family + Newborn | Ellington Agricultural Center

A month or so ago, I received a vague text from a woman at my church, telling me that she had a photography job for me if I was interested at all. Intrigued, I called her back and she elaborated on her idea. A family at our church, the Deffenbaughs, were expecting their third child in the coming weeks, and they were in the same home group as this woman and her family. She, and the rest of their home group, wanted to give the Deffenbaughs a sweet gift, besides the lovely care packages for everyone in the family. To this end, she asked me if I would be willing to take maternity, newborn, and/or family photos for this soon-to-be family of five, as a gift from their home group to this family.

I of course said yes (seriously, how SWEET of an idea!), and later that day was given the go-ahead to talk with the Deffenbaughs to figure out what kind of shoot they wanted and what day would work for them. They decided, excitedly, on just a newborn and family shoot, a couple of weeks after the baby was born. Excited, I left this on a little pause, waiting for the birth of their lovely child.

On May 14, Cora Lou was born at 7:05am, with both mama and baby healthy and strong. She was 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and 19 inches long — and absolutely adorable.

Our shoot day rolls around, and we head out to Ellington Agricultural Center, one of my favorite parts to shoot at.

I loveee the Deffenbaughs children. Their two oldest kiddos are very energetic and smiley, always laughing and showing off. Their middle daughter also LOVES to play with rocks, and many times during the shoot I would just find her sitting in the gravel, picking up rocks and stuffing them in her shoes. I don’t know how she found that to be entertaining, but there was pure joy on her face. Their oldest son wanted to show me how fast he could run, telling me that he could outrun his two year old sister, which just cracked me up. He loved to talk and hug his sister, along with holding his newest sister in his lap, and his photos below are absolutely precious.

I highly recommend clicking through this shoot! The Deffenbaughs are such a sweet family, and I’m so sad that our shoot got cut in half by a torrential downpour that was NOWHERE on the radar (thank you Nashville weather!). However, we are going to do another session sometimes in the coming future (a month, a few months, or a year out) and get more sweet shots of this fantastic family.
