Where do I even begin with these two? How do you put into words one of the BEST friendships that your God-given business has ever given you? Like seriously? How?
I guess I just have to start with the beginning — how Ryan and Katherine met.
On a lovely Tuesday evening in the Spring of 2018, Katherine’s friend Tara introduced her to the new guy named Ryan. These two quickly became friends and by the time Summer came around their friendship was deep and wonderful and filled with adventures and late night chats and Chik-fil-a. But of course, Katherine didn’t see Ryan as more than a friend until she slowly realized (at the end of the summer) that she wanted to update Ryan on everything happening in her life.
Ryan started growing feelings for Katherine, but didn’t want to ruin their friendship or friend group with feelings if they weren’t mutual. However, Katherine is a very honest person (and loves some good honesty in return) so in classic Katherine fashion, she called Ryan at midnight and asked him directly if he had intentions on pursuing this relationship with her. Ryan of course said yes (and told her that she was the most confident, capable, and cutest girl he had ever met) and these two went on their first date that week and found their partner for life as well. After 2.5 years of dating, Ryan proposed on a trip with Katherine to Asheville and now here we are celebrating their wedding and their sweet new start as newlyweds!!
Andddd now here is where I enter the picture (lol sorry, bad pun). Katherine was mutual friends with one of my 2021 Grooms and saw his photos and loved them. She stalked me a bit, then sent me an inquiry. I sent her back my excessively long inquiry email (of course), expecting a short answer that was sweet and to the point.
BUT MAN. I was not prepared for the ESSAY LONG RESPONSE that this sweet woman sent me back. Like is there such a thing as God-orchestrated and miracle friendships because if so, that’s what this sweet friend is to me. Katherine matches my energy like no one else I’ve ever met, is so emotionally intelligent, is amazing at communicating and asking questions, makes you feel like one of the squad ALL OF THE TIME, and inspires respect, honesty, and trust. She just changes you with her smile and presence and I want to be her when I grow up. And now that’s she’s married to Ryan (one of the most patient, generous, and encouraging men I’ve ever known and who is also such a joy to his core), I cannot wait to see how they live for God together and continue to impact thousands of lives. Because that’s what these two do together — they change lives and point people to Christ all.the.freaking.time. (Seriously, I’ve called Katherine for meeting check-ins and we just ended up talking about how hard life is at times and how hard transitions are and just she just took time to be there for me and WOW that’s so rare and beautiful). I’m honored to have been a part of their impact and just thankful for the years of friendship that I have ahead with them.
