Wedding | Skinner Chapel at Scarritt Bennett Center

I love weddings. There’s just something about seeing a glimpse of God’s love for the church come to life. Even if there’s no reception, no dancing, no dinner, no getting ready photos, and no fluff, weddings are still beautiful — because at the end of the day, two people are being unified in body and soul. Forever.

And that was simply the best part of seeing Tim and Hannah in the simple Skinner Chapel at Scarritt Bennett Center. These two became unified. Forever.

These two STUNNING goofballs met on their first day of undergrad at Stanford and they immediately knew something was special between them. They dated all through college, and then BOTH got accepted to Vanderbilt Medical School (like WOOWOOWOWOW).

They got engaged in April 2019 and dove straight into wedding planning. But of course, COVID came in and ruined their plans for a large wedding and reception. They still wanted to get married, but knew that it wouldn’t work out to have a large reception during the peak times of corona season. So instead, they got married in the intimate Skinner Chapel and decided to postpone their big celebration to next year. They flew in Tim’s parents from Zambia safely and all of Hannah’s family made it to Nashville.

This wedding was truly everything. We gathered in this tiny intimate chapel and watched Hannah walk in with her dad, as Tim grinned with joy.

Hannah’s brothers, Haddon and Harrison, played the cello and violin for the ceremony music. Tim’s sister, Jess, read a passage from the Bible.

We all sang In Christ Alone with the words printed on the back of the program, as it drizzled outside. We watched Hannah and Tim, as they said their vows and exchanged their rings with just their immediate family surrounding them. Everyone’s faces were filled with joy (and tears were shed by the audience) as they kissed each other for the first time as husband and wife.

We took family photos outside and finished JUST as it started to rain. Then Tim and Hannah were real troopers as we tried to avoid the rain and take some photos under one of the numerous archways at Scarritt Bennett. As the rain eased up, we wandered around more of the area and these two KILLED it. Born models I swear.

To end, I want to share one tiny part of the excessively long text (yes, 10 paragraphs long) that I sent Hannah the morning of her wedding. I had just read the chapter covering Revelation 21 in “The Triumph of the Lamb” by Dennis E. Johnson and was just shook with emotion at how God loves us and views His bride.

“God moved heaven and earth to have His bride, and today is a JOY because you get to have a taste of that love.”

I think I would add that today, and everyday, we get to experience that love. But you can just see it so clearly on a wedding day, and it was truly an honor to spend this day with the best couple around.

Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Schurz!! I’m excited for a lifetime of love, joy, forgiveness, adventure, dancing, and laughs for the both of you. May you both always know and glimpse the love that God has for His church. You two are sweet, hilarious, beautiful, and just so in love with each other. It was an absolute honor to be a part of your special day, and I highly recommend that everyone look through these photos to see more of their love story .
